A half-day educational programme for high school children was conducted on 22 March 2022 to mark World Water Day 2022. The activity was organised in collaboration with the Kotmale International Training Institute of Irrigation and Water Management (KITI-IWM), Kothmale, Sri Lanka and held at their Main Auditorium.

Dr. A.G. Chandrapala, Principal Agriculture Scientist, Natural Resources Management Center (NRMC), Department of Agriculture, Sri Lanka and Dr. Herath Manthrithilaka, former Head, Sri Lanka Development Initiative, International Water Management Institute (IWMI), Sri Lanka, made presentations on “Our contribution as children and youth to watershed management for conservation, development and food security” and “Groundwater – Making the Invisible Visible”, respectively.

Altogether, 78 participants (42 female and 36 male), including schoolchildren, diploma students of KITI and teachers, participated in the programme. Art, poster and essay competitions were held among the school children, and the winners were rewarded at the event. All the participants were issued a tree plant at the end of the programme.

Dr. S. Pathmarajah, Country Coordinator, Cap-Net Lanka and Eng. (Mr.) Frankie Perera, Director, KITI-IWM coordinated the programme.
