Workshop on Climate Change Adaptation for Field Officers and Farmer Representatives in Giants Tank area in Mannar District
A Climate Change Adaptation for Field Officers and Farmer Representatives in Giants Tank area in Mannar District was held at Farmer Training Centre, Uyliankulam on 25th June 2018 for 63 Farmer Leaders. The programme was organized by SLWP in collaboration with Cap-Net Lanka. Resource Persons were, from Cap-Net Lanka, ( Dr S Pathmarajah, Dept. of Agric. Engineering, FOA, UOP, Mr. Ranjith Rathnayake,SLWAP, Mr. UG Abeygunawardena, SLWP.
Objective of the Workshop was, Institutional and Management strengthening of Farmer Leaders in Medium Irrigation Schemes to cope with extreme climate events (floods and droughts) now occurring with increased frequency.
Programme included the,
Principles of participatory management, Institutional arrangements for farmer representation, roles and responsibilities of staff and farmers in participatory management , Field canal, Distributary canal and System level organizations. Legal basis. Seasonal Planning arrangements, Pre Season and Season Meetings. Constitution of Project Management Committees (PMC) and joint decision making.
